Abstract: NETFINITY & PC ANYWHERE: S3 VIDEO NOT WORKING CORRECTLY

SYMPTOM:

When a remote PC Anywhere system connects to a PC Anywhere HOST, it will exhibit the following problems:

The system will start beeping (as if the keyboard buffer is filled).
Double click any icon and you will receive the properties for that icon.
If you close the window it will open up again.

PROBLEM ISOLATION AIDS:

The system is any of the following IBM servers:

a Netfinity 7000-M10 server, Type 8680, any Model. a Netfinity 5500-M20 server, Type 8662, any Model. a Netfinity 5500-M10 server, Type 8661, any Model. a Netfinity 5500 server, Type 8660, any Model. a Netfinity 5000 server, Type 8659, any Model.

The system is configured with Microsoft Windows NT 4.0, (with any level of service pack applied).
The system is configured with PC Anywhere, version 8 or 9.
The S3 Video Device Driver, version 3.24.16, for the Onboard Video Adapter is affected.

FIX:

Download the current "aw_host.sys" driver from the following URL (Symantec's web site):

http://www.symantec.com/us.index.html

Select the "Service & Support" link.
Select the "Knowledge Base" link.
Select "pcANYWHERE".
From the "Knowledge Base sorted by version" column, select "pcANYWHERE 9.0 for Windows 95/98/NT".
Type the following search string "IBM Netfinity Servers" and click the Search button.
Click the article named "Erratic Functionality with IBM Netfinity Servers".

This article contains the updated aw_host.sys file and direction for installing the new driver.
