Abstract: NETFINITY 5000: ISDN ADAPTERS ONLY WORK IN SLOT-5

SYMPTOM:

ISDN adapter only works in Slot-5. (Non shared ISA/PCI slot.)

PROBLEM ISOLATION AIDS:

The system is a Netfinity 5000 server, Type 8659, any Model.
The system is configured with one of the following:

IBM ISDN BRI 4 Port/U/V.90 Modems adapter,
(Option P/N 33L4643 FRU P/N 33L4610).

IBM ISDN BRI 4 Port/ST/V.90 Modems adapter,
(Option P/N 33L4644 FRU P/N 33L4611).

IBM ISDN 2PRI/24IV.90 Modems,
(Option P/N 33L4645 FRU P/N 33L4612).

IBM ISDN 2PRI/12IV.90 Modems,
(Option P/N 33L4646 FRU P/N 33L4613).

FIX:

Apply Netfinity 5000 Flash BIOS Update Diskette version 1.06, or later, (00n8678.EXE).

BIOS image file (00n8678.exe) is available from the following URL:

http://www.pc.ibm.com/searchfiles.html
search on "Netfinity 5000 BIOS"

The corresponding text file (00n8678.txt) is viewable on-line and may be printed.

To creating a BIOS update diskette; the downloaded file (00n8678.exe) is a self-extracting executable file that will prompt for a diskette.
Follow instructions on the display to create the diskette.

WORKAROUND:

Verify that the card is installed in the correct slot.

If the card is not installed in slot 5, remove the adapter software and the adapter.
Then re-install the adapter in slot-5, and re-install the software.

OR:

Update the BIOS on the Netfinity 5000 (8659) to Level-7 v1.04 or higher.

DETAILS:

The IBM ISDN 2PRI/24/12IV.90 Modems adapter or the IBM 4P BRI ST/U Modems adapter should be installed only in slot-5 in a Netfinity 5000 (8659) if the BIOS is below Level-7 v1.04.
