Abstract: NETFINITY 5000 BIOS 28A REQUIRED FOR ADVANCED SERIALRAID/X

SYMPTOM:

A range of failures including crashes, hangs, and blue screens.

PROBLEM ISOLATION AIDS:

•  The system is a Netfinity 5000 server, Type 8659, any Model.
•  The system is configured with any number of Processors.
•  The system is configured with the following option:

    Advanced SerialRAID Adapter/X, Option P/N 09L2123, FRU P/N 09L2124

•  The BIOS levels affected are - Level 6 and earlier.
•  Any Device Driver for the Advanced SerialRAID/X Adapter is affected.
•  Any Firmware for the Advanced SerialRAID/X Adapter is affected.

FIX:

Install Netfinity 5000 BIOS Version 1.04 / level 7.0 (28a) or higher before installing the SSA adapter.

then select "Downloadable files",
then select "BIOS".
Download and install per README instructions.

DETAILS:

An incompatibility exists between the Advanced SerialRAID/X Adapter and Netfinity 5000 BIOS levels prior to Version 1.04 Level 7.0 (28a).
It relates to how the system reads the Adapter's registers on the PCI bus.
This incompatibility will result in multiple failures. This incompatibility is fixed in BIOS Version 1.04 / Level 7.0 (28a), released 1999-03-17.
