Abstract: REBUILD USING SERVERAID ADMIN UTILITY FAILS USING HIGH ID
TEXT:
Rebuild using ServeRAID Admin Utility Fails using High ID.
SYMPTOMS:
When you try and start a Rebuild in the ServeRAID Administration Utility
(after a drive has been marked DDD and you have replaced it)
you get an error that the Rebuild could not be started.
The Rebuild works OK when you perform it through the DOS ServeRAID Configuration Diskette.
PROBLEM ISOLATION AIDS:
-= OR =-
WORKAROUND:
Leave the 'Channel to Bank Mapping' set to the default of LOW IDs.
This will not have any impact on the performance of the server.
DETAILS:
The problem has to do with the "Channel to Bank Mapping" in the ServeRAID configuration for
ServeRAID, ServeRAID II, and ServeRAID 3(H or L). The Channel to Bank mapping is designed for use
with the Type II and Type III hot swap backplanes, those backplanes found on
the 320, 330, 500, 520, 720, and 3518. The default setting is Low IDs.
However, in the 704, or any system with an EXP10 or EXP15 attached externally via a
ServeRAID, ServeRAID II, and ServeRAID 3(H or L) adapter, if you are using drives at
High IDs and change the "Channel to Bank Mapping" setting of the ServeRAID adapters
from the default setting of Low IDs to High IDs, then you can experience a situation
where a Rebuild will not start using the ServeRAID Administration Utility.
The workaround is to leave the "Channel to Bank Mapping" set to the default of LOW IDs.
This will not have any impact on the performance of the server.
