Abstract: Netfinity 5500: BEEP CODE or LOST VIDEO upon ADDING MEMORY
SYMPTOM:
NOTE: Refer to the System service label (located on the Server)
or the Netfinity User's Handbook, or the IBM Netfinity 5500
HMM (Hardware Maintenance Manual) P/N 10L9800 for information
on location of CR8 thru CR11 on the Processor Board.
PROBLEM ISOLATION AIDS:
All of the following must be true for this TIP to apply:
- The System is a Netfinity 5500 server Type 8660 model 11U, 11X, 1RU, 1RX, 41U, 41X, 4RU, 4RX.
- The System exhibits either of the described Symptoms
(listed in the "Symptoms" section of this document)
ONLY after adding one or more supported registered DIMM in the System.
FIX:
- Power-off the Server and any peripheral devices and
disconnect all external cables and power cords, then remove the top cover.
- Locate Jumper pins J12 on the Processor Board, and ensure
the jumper block is located on pins 2 and 3.
- Re-install the top cover, reconnect all external cables and
power cords, power-on any peripheral devices, then power-on
the Server to verify this fix.
NOTE: To determine the location of J12, refer to the Netfinity
User's Handbook, or the IBM Netfinity 5500 HMM (Hardware
Maintenance Manual) P/N 10L9800 for information on "Preparing
to Install Options", "Top Cover Removal" and "Processor Board Component Locations"
