Chapter 4. Systems requiring manual PCI adapter configuration
Some systems are electrically and physically PCI compatible,
but require manual re-configuration when adding PCI adapters.
Repeated here are the required resources (As listed in the
Auto LANStreamer PCI Installation and Testing Manual, Chapter 2,
page 15.) Some systems may only require that a few of these
parameters be set manually.
The Auto LANStreamer PCI adapter requires these resources:
- Adapter Enable = ON
- Bus Master Enable = ON
- I/O Location - any available 256-byte address range.
- Memory Location - any available 256-byte address range.
- Interrupt - Any available interrupt except 0 (INT0)
(see Interrupt section below)
- ROM Location - Any available 16K-byte ROM address range.
(see ROM mapping section below)
- Latency timer - Any value
(see performance section below)
-----------------
System error message clarification:
1) WARNING: Insufficient PCI Memory Block
Use Setup to increase the PCI Memory Block Size.
-This was seen on one Gateway2000 system when too much
'Shadow ROM' had been disabled from the system setup
utility. To correct this problem, follow the instructions
in the system's user manual to properly configure any
required ISA adapter ROM space utilization. Leave remaining
ROM address ranges enabled for use by the PCI devices.
-The Auto LANStreamer uses 16K bytes of ROM space (located
somewhere between 'C0000'h and 'DFFFF'h) for its Remote IPL
code. At least 16K must be available for each Auto
LANStreamer PCI adapter in the system.
