8573 with a blank plasma display

PURPOSE:
Porrect a blank plasma display condition that can occur during the early life of the system.

PHYSICAL check:
Systems meeting the following two physical check requirements are eligible for this ECA:.
  1.  the systems must be within the following serial number ranges:
  2.   *** NOTE *** the following serial numbers are U.S. production.

  3.   system serial number range
  4.   8573 mod 031 23-3000001 - 23-3007999
  5.   8573 mod 031 23-3050001 - 23-3050165
  6.   8573 mod 061 23-0020701 - 23-0020899
  7.   8573 mod 061 23-0050001 - 23-0050699
  8.   8573 mod 121 23-1009001 - 23-1009999
  9.   8573 mod 121 23-1013001 - 23-1018999
  10.   8573 mod 121 23-1050001 - 23-1053999
  11.  the systems must *not* have a handwritten "x" displayed

     on the rear of the plasma panel assembly.

  12.  the systems must be within the following serial number ranges:   *** NOTE *** the following serial numbers are Greenock
  13.   production for emea.
  14.   99-0013807 to 99-0018580 type 60MB
  15.   99-1013361 to 99-1017143 type 120MB
  16.   99-3050043 to 99-3055042 type 30MB
  17.  the systems must *not* have a handwritten "x" displayed on  the rear of the plasma panel assembly.


DETAIL:
It has been determined that a small number of 8573 systems within the serial number ranges in this ECA may have a plasma display that could fail during the early Power on life of the display.
The symptom is a blank plasma screen on display assemblies without a handwritten "x" on the display's back cover. Systems with this condition will operate properly if there is a CRT display connected to the external video port, but the external CRT display must be disconnected to verify this symptom. Diagnostics will indicate a plasma display failure, but all other video diagnostics will run correctly on the video adapter and on the external display.

NOTEs:
Obtain replacement plasma display FRUs and return through normal channels.
