Subject: Mach5 MCA Cable For Video Adapter
PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
All Microchannel VIDEO Adapters DISPLAY NO VIDEO, and do not INTERRUPT
operation of PLANAR VIDEO.
MACHINES AFFECTED:
PRODUCT CODE NAME - MACH5
MACHINE NUMBER - 68X6
MODEL NUMBER - ALL MODELS
BUS ARCHITECTURE - MICROCHANNEL/PCI
OTHER MACHINES AFFECTED: NONE
ROOT CAUSE:
Customer did not have OPTION CABLE 06H6727 - AUXILIARY VIDEO EXTENSION
CABLE for Microchannel. Cable runs from MCA RISER to VIDEO FEATURE
CONNECTOR on SYSTEM BOARD and allows MCA VIDEO ADAPTER to override
ON-BOARD VIDEO. Without cable, MCA video cards do not become active.
This OPTION is not CLEARLY EXPLAINED in the INSTALLING OPTIONS GUIDE.
In the INSTALLING ADAPTERS SECTION, it incorrectly states that the
customer may need to change a jumper, and refers them to PAGE 103.
There is NO JUMPER TO CHANGE, and the customer should refer TO PAGE
111 for a description of the cable required. Publications is now aware
of the problem and is moving to correct the information.
If a correct HW-configuration (cable installed) still does'nt work,
then try a BIOS re-flash and SELECT ONLY the U.S or U.K. language group
for flashing. (BIOS Lvl. <= 38a and XGA-2 MC-adapter!)
TEMPORARY WORK AROUND: NONE
PERMANENT FIX:
OBTAIN OPTION PART NUMBER 06H6727 (FRU 06H6728) AND INSTALL.
ISOLATION AIDS:
NO VIDEO FROM MCA VIDEO ADAPTER. SYSTEM VIDEO WORKS FINE. IF THERE IS
NO CABLE CONNECTING VIDEO FEATURE CONNECTOR TO RISER, THIS APPLIES.
