Continuous beeps / system halted
PROBLEM - With a good planar, if a system is powered on after a cable is connected to
the planar keyboard port, and then disconnected from the keyboard port, the system will take
approximately five minutes to boot to a system halted error. Symptoms include
continuous beeps.
Machines AFFECTED - Valuepoint 6384 P60/D systems.
SOLUTION - The data line is charging to a valid high and discharging low. The power-on
self-test gets confused resulting in test delays. Removing C13H4, 470 pf capacitor to VCC
will eliminate transitions on the data line. The system will quickly run through POST and
cause a normal 301 error. Customers are advised to connect the cable and keyboard to the
system.
