Has the customer used the IBM Token-Ring Network Determination Guide
to isolate the problem to this IBM 8230 Base Unit ?
+---+
Yes No-+002|Refer the network administrator to the IBM Token-Ring
| +---+Network Problem Determination Guide to isolate the
| problem.
| Continue with Step 003 if you have isolated the
| problem to this IBM 8230.
+-+-+
|003|
+---+
- Check the 4/16 Mbps switch setting on the front of the base unit.
- Be sure that the setting matches the data rate of the ring.
- Turn on the power of the IBM 8230, and wait 60 seconds.
Note : DO NOT turn off the power of the base unit unless you
are instructed to do so. Turning off the power of the base unit
will disrupt all users connected to this base unit.
IS an X'8X' status code displayed in the error code display ?
+---+
Yes No-+004| Go to Step 006
| +---+
+-+-+
|005|
+---+
- Replace the Processor Board
- Test the IBM 8230 as described in this chapter (above the MAP)
+---+
|006|
+---+
Is an error code displayed ?
+---+

|015|
+---+
Is the IBM 8230 Base Unit in a wrap state ?
Locate the RI and RO Wrap LEDs. If one or both of this LEDs is lit,
then the IBM 8230 Base Unit is in a wrap state of Wrap RI, Wrap RO,
or Wrap RI/RO.
+---+
Yes No-+016| Go to Step 021
+---+ +---+
|017|
+---+
- There is a problem with the token-ring network segment on the RI
or RO side of the IBM 8230 Base Unit.
- There is a problem with the Copper or Optical Fiber Module.
- There is a problem with the Processor Board.
- The IBM LAN Network Manager or Maintenance Facility has issued a
wrap command.
