Controls/Indicators (Front View) 8642 Server
For Front Panel Buttons see > Front Operator Panel
There is a GREEN POWER-ENABLE switch and a WHITE POWER-ON/OFF switch
right above it. When you push the GREEN button, current is sent to the
planar, but the system is "not turned on." By pressing the white
button, until a message appears in the information panel, you actually
turn on (boot) the system. Likewise, when you want to turn off the
720, press the white button, until the information panel is blank.
The GREEN POWER-ENABLE switch gives us some systems management
capabilities (now and future) that will allow remote power-cycling
and other features that would require having at least power to the
planar (hence, this design).
If you have to service the system, whether CE activity or just adding
adapters, it is CRITICAL that you TURN OFF BOTH THE WHITE AND GREEN
switches, and UNPLUG THE SYSTEM If power is not disabled to the
planar, the system is very susceptible to shortages.
