IBM 2/4 GB - 4mm Tape Drive

Testing the 4 mm Tape Unit w/o Using the System.

•  Make sure that all system activity for the 4 mm Tape Drive has been properly halted.
•  Unload and eject any tape cartridge from the drive.
•  Make sure the power to the tape drive is turned off.
•  Turn the power-on to the tape drive.
•  The following should occur to the 4mm Tape Drive.
  1.  The two green status lights and the amber status are lit for  2 seconds which is a test of the LED's.
  2.  The Read-Write and Disturbance lights will turn off and the Ready light will flash,  indicating the 4mm Tape Drive Power-On Self Test (POST) is running.
  3.  The Ready status light is turned off after appr. 15 seconds, indicating that the POST has completed successfully.  Follow the instructions that are shipped with the Diagnostic Cartridge to complete the testing of the 4 mm Tape Drive.

Description

•  The 4mm Tape Drive is designed to be attached to any system using a  single-ended interface meeting the Small Computer System Interface-II  Standard ANSI X3.131-199X Rev. 10h.

•  Data Transferrate 183KB per second
   The Data compression hardware, contained in the tape drive, is controlled  by the system software and can increase the effective capacity and  transfer rate up to 8GB and 732KB per second.
  
•  A status light that indicates when it is time to clean the tape path.
  
•  Internal diagnostics that are activated when the 4 mmDiagnostic Cartridge  is inserted and loaded into the drive.  System intervention is not required to run these internal diagnostics.
   The Option Diskette contains:
  1.  4mm Tape Drive device support software for OS/2 V-1.x
  2.  Installation programs
  3.  Diagnostic programs

READY	R/W	DIST	Status
FLASH	Off	Off	The Power-On Self Test (POST) is running or the Diagnostic Cartridge is running.
Off	Off	Off	One of the following has occurred: ° The Power is off ° The POST has completed successfully, but no tape cartridge has been inserted.
ON	Off	Off	A tape cartridge has been inserted and the 4mm Tape Drive is Ready to receive commands from the system.
ON	FLASH	Off	The Tape motion and the 4mm Tape Drive is running a device operation or cleaning.
Off	Off	FLASH	The 4 mm Tape Drive has detected an internal fault that requires corrective action such as a tape cartridge failure, high humidity, or no SCSI terminator.
Off/ON	Off/FL	ON	The tape path requires cleaning or is using a poor quality tape cartridge.

4	ON	The Tape Drive will only Write to approved 'DATA GRADE' media.
4	Off	The Tape Drive will Write to any media. WARNING Selecting this option and using unapproved Tape Cartridges may void warranty and cause errors.
5-8	ON	Reserved MUST be ON
