IBM SCSI-2 Fast/Wide Adapter/A Description
The SCSI-2 Fast/Wide Adapter/A provides an interface between an IBM PS/2 computer with Micro Channel
architecture and SCSI-1 or SCSI-2 devices. The SCSI-2 adapter supports two seperate fast/wide SCSI channels.
It supports data transfer rates up to 10 million bytes per second (Fast SCSI) for 8 bit SCSI devices that support
Fast SCSI. And, it supports data transfer rates of up to 20 million bytes per second (Fast/Wide SCSI) for 16 bit devices
that support Fast/Wide SCSI.
Some PS/2 computers have BIOS that does not support of the functions of the SCSI-2 Fast/Wide
Adapter/A. If you are installing the SCSI-2 adapter in a Model 8590 / 8595 then please see the following table:

If the Model 8590 / 8595 computer submodel byte code is not listed in the above
table, then the SCSI-2 adapter will work in the computer w/o any upgrade to the system programs.
If you have found the submodel byte code then refer to the following table to determine the next action.

Installing SCSI-2 Support Programs & Device Drivers
The SCSI-2 Fast/Wide Adapter/A Support Diskette contains the Option Programs and
Device Drivers for the computer.
You must install the option programs from the Support Diskette, so that the computer will
recognize the new SCSI-2 adapter.
Installing the SCSI-2 Option Programs
- Insert the SCSI-2 F/W Adapter/A Support diskette into drive A:.
- Turn on the computer.
- Select the computer model on the Installation Options screen and press Enter
(this will update the system partition)
- Select the drive where your system partition is located and press Enter.
- After the computer has completed copying the diskette, return to the Installation Options screen.
- Press F3 and follow the instructions to restart the computer.
- Remove the diskette, and turn off the computer.
Installing SCSI-2 Device Drivers for OS/2 2.0 or Later
- Turn on the computer and wait for the operating system to start.
- Insert the SCSI-2 F/W Adapter/A Support Diskette into drive A:.
- From any OS/2 full screen session, type DDINSTAL and press Enter.
- Select IBM PS/2 SCSI-2 Fast/Wide Adapter Support Installation from the menu and press Enter
This copies the SCSI-2 device drivers to the hard disk and adds the following BASEV statement to the CONFIG.SYS file
if not already there:
BASEDEV=IBM2SCSI.ADD /LED
BASEDEV=DELIVERY.SYS
If the computer had IBM SCSI-2 device drivers previously installed and you added extra parameters to the above statement, you need to
check your CONFIG.SYS file and ensure that it has only one BASEDEV statement for the IBM2SCSI.ADD.
- Remove the diskette from drive A and turn off the computer.
Installing SCSI-2 Device Drivers for Novell NetWare V-3.11
- Turn on the computer.
- Prepare the NetWare startup drive according to the instructions in the NetWare manuals.
- Insert the SCSI-2 F/W Adapter/A Support Diskette into drive A.
NOTE: In the following instructions, D: is the NetWare startup drive.
- Type DIR A:\PS2OPT*.DSK One of these filenames should appear: PS2OPT.DSK or
PS2OPT2.DSK
- Type the following command: COPY A:\PS2OPT.DSK D: or
COPY A:\PS2OPT2 D: (depending on the filename you found), and press Enter.
- To start the NetWare server, type SERVER at the command prompt and press Enter.
- At the NetWare server console prompt, type LOAD PS2OPT or LOAD PS2OPT2 and press Enter..
Installing SCSI-2 Device Drivers for Novell NetWare V-4.0 or Later
- Turn on the computer.
- Prepare the NetWare startup drive according to the instructions in the NetWare manuals.
- Insert the SCSI-2 F/W Adapter/A Support Diskette into drive A.
NOTE: In the following instructions, D: is the NetWare startup drive.
- Type DIR A:\PS2SCSI*.DSK One of these filenames should appear: PS2SCSI.DSK or
PS2SCSI2.DSK
- Type the following command: COPY A:\PS2SCSI.DSK D: or
COPY A:\PS2SCSI2 D: (depending on the filename you found), and press Enter.
- To start the NetWare server, type SERVER at the command prompt and press Enter.
